Irrfan Khan Says Sairat 'Is An Identity Of The New Cinema', But He Isn't The Only One Praising It

hiffingtonpost

A while ago we had told you about how director Nagraj Manjule's Marathi film Sairat has become the highest grossing Marathi film ever. It has done business of 65 crores plus at the Box Office as of now. And it's not just about the numbers, the film is being appreciated by the who's who of Bollywood as well. Based on the sensitive subject of love affair gone wrong due to casteism, Sairat tells the story of teenage lovers who are torn apart because they belong to different castes.

And needless to say, the movie has been garnering praises from all over the country. And now, Irrfan Khan has even said that movies like Sairat would 'give us the courage to compete against Hollywood films'.

He said, "There is a need for our films to address universal audiences and this film is a new language. This film is an identity of the new cinema that will evolve and what the young generation will bring forth. These kinds of films will give us the courage to compete with Hollywood films."

In fact, he had even organised a special screening of the film. He also talked about why he decided to hold the screening of the film, "I felt that our young generation watches a lot of Hollywood cinema and often doesn't watch our films. So I thought of organizing this screening for all the kids' friends and close ones to give the young generation a taste of it to let them know what is happening in our cinema. The more cinema gets diverse, it is better for the audience and for the growth of the industry. Our audiences are demanding a lot and our industry is unable to cope up with it. That is why Hollywood's films are earning so much money."

True that, Irrfan!

But hey, he isn't the only one going gaga over the film. There are other biggies as well, including Aamir Khan and Anurag Kashyap who have praised the film in the past. Looks like it has definitely caught everyone's fancy. Check out the other celebs who have showered Sairat with praises.

Aamir Khan had urged the audience to go and watch the film.
Film producer Pritish Nandy also called it 'brilliant'!
Ayushmann Khurrana couldn't stop himself from praising it.
Aligarh director Hansal Mehta was all praises for the film.
So did Shooijit Sircar and Richa Chadha.
