Scotland to host Australia and New Zealand in 2020 home summer

December 17 2019

"The opportunity to play against two of the best teams in the world is an exciting prospect."

Scotland will host Australia and New Zealand as part of their 2020 home summer, Cricket Scotland announced on Tuesday (December 17). While Australia will be just playing a solitary T20I on June 29 ahead of their England tour, New Zealand will play one T20I and one ODI.

New Zealand were initially supposed to play just one T20I on June 26 but have now made a change to their schedule where they kickstart the tour with the T20 game on June 10th which will then be followed by the 50-over game two days later.

"The opportunity to play against two of the best teams in the world is an exciting prospect," head coach of Scotland, Shane Burger, said. "We have beaten teams of this calibre previously and we will be looking to push them all the way on all occasions. Cricket Scotland has set big goals for the year 2020 and this is part of that vision of playing against the world's best and challenging players and staff to keep improving both on and off the field."

Cricket Scotland CEO Gus Mackay said that the three limited-overs games will aid in Scotland's preparation for the T20 WC in Australia later that year. "We are delighted to welcome Australia and New Zealand to Scotland for three Summer Internationals in 2020," Mackay said.

"To host these high-profile matches further demonstrates Cricket Scotland's ambitions of playing more fixtures against Full Member opposition and also provides our fans and supporters with more international cricket. In addition, it presents a great opportunity to prepare for the ICC Men's T20 WC to be held in Australia the same year."
