What a first day!

SA's bowling is decent, but its batting is suspect.
Pak's bowling is decent, its batting is suspect.

15 wickets fell today.

Pakistan all out for 181 - Olivier got a 6-fer.
Babar Azam got them to some respectability with a 71.

In reply, SA are also struggling on 127/5.

Won't be surprised if this match is over in 3 days. :-)

Olivier 11/96.

Am just wondering, are both Philander and Ngidi injured?

Surely they'd have been higher in the pecking order than Olivier?

If they are available, makes it an interesting selection conundrum for SA now.

Rabada
Steyn
Ngidi
Philander
Olivier

Wow!

Morkel has retired - SA doesn't miss him at all. :-)

What SA lack is a left-arm quick.

I don't recall them ever having one, not since readmission.

In addition to these guys, they also had Kyle Abbott who I rated quite highly.
Poor guy never got many chances, with Steyn, Morkel and Rabada.
Ended up becoming a Kolpak player and leaving.

A left-arm quick comes to mind, can't remember his name.
The guy played only a bit - I remember one tour in the West Indies where he won a very tight game with an amazing spell.

I think they had a left arm pacer called Tsotsobe? Wayne Parnell and maybe a 1 Test wonder Charl Willoughby.

I dont mind people converting to X,Y,Z religion. That is their individual prerogative, I dont like this flaunting of religion on the sports field.

Started with Imran Khan describing matches with India as 'jehad' (holy war). I knew from that time, he is extremist minded (forget the external facade).

Its irritating, but keeping long Mullah like beards even more while being professional players.

Oh, I forgot Wayne Parnell.
Yes, left-arm quick.
Never really impressed me much.

The one I have in mind is someone else though.
He played very less - not even sure if he played Tests.
I remember he changed one ODI game in the West Indies.

I will find out his name.

Oh sorry, I got it wrong!

He's not a left-arm bowler at all.

He's right-arm.

Charl Langeveldt.

This was the game I have in mind, where Langeveldt won it for SA.
I distinctly remember seeing this on TV.

SA scored 284/6 in their 50 overs.
In reply, Windies were 281/6 and even 283/7.
Then Langeveldt took a hat-trick and Windies were all out for 283.

Fine recovery!

Considering SA's choking record, I am beginning to see a glimmer of hope here.

177/3 at tea is a much better score than I expected.
We are only 77 behind now.

We have the bowling attack to dismiss South Africa cheaply.
Their batting is quite suspect right now.

BCCI is ranked #1 in Tests, Pakistan is ranked #7.

Not surprising that BCCI is tougher opposition for South Africa than Pakistan is.

Though this is a dead rubber game, it could be a historic day for us today.

We need 220-odd with 7 wickets in hand.

Our recent record would suggest we will end up on the wrong side of the result, but I'm encouraged by our batting yesterday.

If we can continue in the same vein, or at least ensure we don't lose any wickets in the first session, we can hope to inch towards the target.

There's plenty of time - 2 full days - so no hurry at all.

Come on, Pakistan.

Bad start today.
Babar Azam out to a brute of a delivery from Olivier.
And Sarfaraz deceived by Olivier.
What a series Olivier is having!

We still need 200-odd, and have only 5 in hand - but we still have Asad Shafiq.
And Shadab has shown that he CAN bat in a difficult situation - after all, he's an allrounder, with 3 fifties in his first 8 innings (and an average of 28).

If these two can hang in there until lunch, I think the wicket will ease thereafter.

Lost all 3 Tests but am proud of this young squad.
A South Africa tour for a sub-continent side is always tough.
When even the top-ranked BCCI side was crushed, thrashed and mauled, we didn't stand much of a chance.
Overall, I think we acquitted ourselves honourably.
