Wonderful 100 by Harmanpreet.
Takes India to 194.

Now for the NZ response.
73/2 now as Poonam Yadav gets Devine.

And Jess Watkin gone first ball!
That's 73/3.

But Suzie Bates is still very much there.
And looking very dangerous.

The RRR is 11-odd, not too much.

India win - but I think they were not clinical enough with the ball.

Harmanpreet kept stressing in the post-match interview that they needed a lot of improvement.
That's true - the bowling in particular needs to be much tighter.
Too many full tosses and hit-me deliveries.
The fielding and catching were pretty sharp though.

So, bad day for NZ cricket.
Lost the men's ODI to Pakistan, lost women's T20 to India.

In Dottin and Staphanie Taylor, Windies have two superstars.
Dottin is just awesome - earlier with bat, but increasingly with ball too.
I love World Cups - ODI or T20, men's or women's.'

Well done, India.
Got away in this game inspite of dropping so many catches cos Pakistan's batting isn't that great - their strength is their bowling.
Do this to Australia or England and they'll punish you real bad.

Next game onwards, catching should be back on track.

Married cricketers' historic innings at Women's World T20
7Sport•13 Nov. 2018, 8:40 pm
South African cricketers Marizanne Kapp and Dane van Niekerk have made their way into the history books at the Women’s World T20.

The women cricketers tied the knot in July, with team skipper van Niekerk marrying teammate and all rounder Kapp in Johannesburg.

On Sunday, the married couple became the first ever pair to build a partnership and bat together in a major ICC tournament.

The South African couple became the first married pair to bat together in a major ICC tournament.

After Kapp made the news of their marriage public with an Instagram post from the wedding ceremony, they became just the second women’s cricket pair to tie the knot – following New Zealand’s Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu’s in March 2017.

Battling to make a positive start at 6/2, Kapp and van Niekerk proved to build an important partnership for the South Africans in the WT20 match against Sri Lanka.

The pair notched an unbeaten 66-run partnership before Kapp was called out for LBW, finishing on a game-high 38 runs.

The historic innings guided South Africa closer to the target, prevailing victorious in the 18th with 7 wickets to spare.

Australia and England are ranked 1 and 2 in Women's Cricket.
In both ODIs and T20s.
For a reason.

They're consistently MUCH better than any other team. MUCH MUCH better.
Though West Indies beat Australia in the final of the last World T20 (quite a shock result!), no one doubts that Australia and England have far more firepower than the rest.

Suddenly Australia lost to India in their last group match.
That raised my eyebrows - it was a pretty tame defeat too.
But I didn't say anything, cos I didn't want to take anything away from the Indian performance.
Both teams had already qualified - was only a question of who'd top the group, who'd be second.

What happened thereafter was oh-so-predictable.

A couple of days later, in THEIR last group match, England very conveniently loses to West Indies.
Again, both teams had qualified - was only a question of who would top the group, who'd be second.

Clearly this was planned - no way did England want to meet world no.1 Australia in the semis.

Far easier to play lower-ranked India.

In their semis today, Australia thrashed West Indies.
And England thrashed India.

So, as expected, it will be an Australia-England final.

But what if the last group stage matches had happened simultaneously?

Would England have then lost to the West Indies?

These things happen - part of strategy.

You want to avoid tough opponents in knock-out rounds as much as possible.

So just putting this out there.

There needs to be more incentive for topping the group.
When you get into the knockouts, your group topping should count for something.

Like say a Super 4, where the group toppers start with x points advantage.
They then play each other (so each team plays 3 games).
Or an IPL-style thing.

Not sure what is best, but if you're telling me both Australia and England came second in their groups BY COINCIDENCE, I won't believe you.

Yes, some players were rested, now that a semi-final berth was assured.
But I am sure if Australia had beaten India and topped their group, England would have done everything possible to top their group too.

Again, not whining about this.
Like I said, it is part of strategy and happens all the time.

I reckon you're wrong

CA like to overplay women's achievement in cricket because its low hanging fruit. The level of competition is lower than the men's game but it makes their KPIs look good.

They can put up a powerpoint presentation now that says...

The State of Australian Cricket
- Current Ashes holders
- Current ODI World Champions
- Current WT20 World Champions

The reality of women's cricket and why Australia winning is picking low hanging fruit...

Mind The Gap

When it comes to investment and professionalism there are basically three groups in women's cricket and this is reflected by the recent FICA report into that part of the game. At the top of the pile is Australia, with its strong domestic competitions and talent pathways, followed by England.

In the second group you find India, West Indies, New Zealand and South Africa, with decent central contracts for the national team but little to provide a base underneath the elite players.

The rest fall into a third pool of varying benefits and financial rewards for international players who, in some cases, are only semi-professional or fully amateur. That the tournament played out largely along those lines should sound alarms. Too many games had predictable results and were one-sided. It emerged that Pakistan's players hadn't been paid their monthly retainers in more than six months while the Ireland players receive minimal financial compensation for playing. The ICC is working on expanding the women's championship and creating more opportunities for all countries to play, but while there is such contrast in investment and funding, there's a danger that gap could widen to a point where it's all but impossible to bridge.

I predict that in 10 years' time (maybe even earlier), BCCI Women will be ruling women's cricket as well.
Tokenism with regard to women's issues is very much IN nowadays, with a whole lot of virtue-signalling going on.
Women will keep getting raped by the dozens everyday in India but, for image purposes, it is important for India to appear to care about women.
Hence the speeches, the tokenism.

BCCI, as the caretaker of Indian cricket, will naturally not want to be left behind.
In fact, it would love to be seen as a flag-bearer of this great movement towards women's empowerment.
With its overflowing coffers, it can afford to throw some more crumbs the women's cricket way.
And it will.
This itself will be more than enough to encourage more women to come into cricket - considering cricket is more mainstream than any other sport in India, and other options - like tennis - are more expensive.
TV & Corporate sponsors, all part of this whole tokenism game, will oblige.

Matter of time.

Mithali Raj writes to BCCI CEO & GM.
(Btw, BCCI CEO is accused in #MeToo but was acquitted in a 2-1 internal CoA decision)

She has accused Diana Edulji of bias.
She has really ripped coach Ramesh Pawar apart.

Would like to hear his side of the story.

I think it's not just about not picking her for the semi-final.
It's about how she feels she was treated right through.

There is a conundrum here in that the larger bats are more easily wielded by larger batters.

More of a problem for India women. I predict India will develop bigger girls they have the population base.

BCCI is looking for a new coach for their women's team.
Is Greg Chappell available? :-)
We need the team to be united and find a common cause to rally around. :-)
