what a consolation win for RR.
dent chances of CSK get a bye from playoffs now. SRH solidifies their bye chances.

True, but I don't think Williamson's SRH worry about statistical chances. They approach every game correctly - to do their best and try hardest to win it on the day - rather than worry about what happened in the previous match or how they are going to approach the next. You can bet that Bhuvi and Kaul would have been told to forget about their expensive overs against DD and believe that they are - along with Sandeep Sharma and Rashid Khan, the best bowling quartet in the IPL. Come to think of it, the fifth bowler, Shakib al Hassan, is doing pretty well himself.

There was something odd about the CSK innings.
Felt like it had been fixed.
The way Dhoni batted, for instance.

MS did good with 143 strike rate
Axar & Chahal failed to take wicket at Banglore vs Proteas A

Did you watch his entire innings?
It was very unlike the Dhoni we've seen all IPL.
The commentators kept saying "it's a slow wicket" but hey, Dhoni has enough experience to know how to hit sixes on these wickets.
That he hit only one six (and one four) off the 23 deliveries he faced, is odd, even allowing for the ground being larger than grounds like Chinnaswamy.
Dhoni has far more power in those arms than most Indian players - he clears 80m easily.
And it's not as if the bowling was so exceptional that it tied him down.
It's very hard to tie down Dhoni in the death overs - he just goes hell for leather after everything.
Yesterday he didn't.
One reason CSK ended only at 176.

Raja, I missed this post before but saw it this morning.

I am not sweating but gritting my teeth that bloody MI might sneak though into the playoffs. I would rather see my home team - RCB -lose (which they are good at) than see MI win a single match. Mind you, it is the TEAM and what they represent that I dislike not individual players. I root for the Bum when he is wearing National Indian blues but jeer him when he bowls in Mumbai Indian blues.

I still think (and hope) that MI fail to reach the Playoffs; when they play DD next, the latter will have nothing to lose and so might play with gay abandon and crush MI.

While most people are calculating how RR or even RCB might sneak into the playoffs, I'll calculate how MI can get booted out. When they do, that'd me my 2018 IPL Champagne Moment.

I don't rate Dinesh Karthik's captaincy at all.
He isn't clinical.
You've got 245 - that's a MASSIVE score.
You're just hanging in there, with a terrible NRR - the worst amongst the contenders.
You've managed to get the opposition at 119/5 after 12 overs.
Their best batsmen, bar Finch, in the hut.
THIS is the match that you need to use to give that NRR such a boost that it'll not just push you ahead of others, but give you a bit of leeway in your remaining games.

So what does KKR do? Allow KingsXI to score easy runs. Average bowling. Even Ashwin took them apart with a 200 SR.
KingsXI managed to bat all 20 overs and get to a very healthy 214.
Yes, KKR won - but dismissing KingsXI for 150-160 would have done so much more for their NRR.

Had MI been in their situation, they'd have closed it out much earlier.

KKR blow hot and cold. They were terrible against MI on home turf but thrashed KXIP away. I agree that DK's antics as captain are rather annoying, especially when his team is bowling. This constant running across to talk to the bowler between balls is getting on my nerves.

Good to see RCB win today. But someone tell me, what is that worthless tub of grease Safraz Khan doing in the team? Pathetically useless in the field and ridiculous as a batsman. They had a fielder ready and waiting for the stupid scoop of his. IMO, they should throw him out and give Manan Vohra another chance.
Next, Parthiv Patel is doing nothing with the bat and IMO they should drop him and bring QdK back for the next game. That would mean losing either CdG or Moeen Ali, probably the latter, brining Negi or Sundar instead. Finally, there may be a case for giving Woakes another chance in place of Southee.

Defination of Indian domestic ?
No he not playing or allows to play in Indian Domestic matches ( he is only plays in IPL)yesterday he hits 36 ball 75 in IPL

Definition of Indian domestic cricket? Domestic cricket that is under the control of BCCI and not subject to two or more international boards of control. The IPL is domestic solely under the BCCI control and not international cricket, therefore it is Indian domestic cricket.

IPL matches are part of the rich tapestry of Indian domestic cricket. Just like BBL is part of Australia's domestic cricket. And so on and so forth.

CSK are running out of steam and the SRH match has come at the wrong time for them. Of the 5 important players - Dhoni, Watson, Bravo, Harbhajan and Tahir - only Bravo is under 35 years of age and he is only a few months away fron that mark. Dhoni and Tahir still appear fit for their ages but the other 3 are definitely showing their mileage. IMO, they'll struggle through the remaining 3 group matches; SRH are favorites in today's home (for CSK) match and next DD at Delhi where the latter have nothing to lose. By the time CSK get to their final match against KXIP in their new 'home', the senior members will be feeling the strain.

IMO, CSK will qualify in #3 spot and so will have to go through the eliminator against MI ( ), KKR, RR or even RCB(who will have momentum in the unlikely event that they get there). I don't rate their chances.

Ball swung 9 overs for CSk. No overs for SRH.

Toss made a big difference, but even then I thought SRH were in it until Pandey dropped Dhoni.

Jofra Archer bowled superbly and kept it real tight.
Then, in the 19th over, Unadkat (multi-million dollar man) decided to give it all away - giving away 19 runs.
This is where the game turns.
Is this the IPL trophy?

RR are going to mess this up.
I can just sense it.
They'll get the RRR to keep going up - and then lose wickets in a heap.
Not that they need the RRR to go up, to lose wickets in a heap.
Their batting is truly pathetic.

Sweet win. :-)
Thank you, Jos.

MI are still not out of this though.
They have the best NRR of the 14 point-contenders, so we need 2 of KXIP, KKR and RR to get to 16.

Kings play RCB, MI, CSK.
KKR play RR, SRH
RR play KKR, RCB
MI play Kings and DD.

Assuming Kings lose to MI (very likely!), they need to beat both RCB and CSK to feel safe.
Even if they lose one game, they can go through with 14 points.

I hope Shreyas Iyer and Pant can sign off in style, beating MI.

As an RCB supporter, I have to wish that they beat KXIP tomorrow. Therefore, my ideal scenario for the remaining matches would be as follows:

RCB beat KXIP tomorrow and move to 10 points, leaving the Kings stuck on 12 points.

Then RR beat KKR, moving to 14 points themselves and leaving KKR still on 12 points.

Then MI beat (much as I hate to say it) KXIP, struggling up to 12 points and leaving KXIP still on 12 points themselves.

Then RCB beat SRH at Bengaluru, pulling themselves up to 12 points.

The following DD vs CSK match will be of no consequence to any other team but I hope DD win.

Then RCB beat RR, raising themselves up to 14 points and match RR on 14 points as both complete their group matches.

Then SRH beat KKR, consolidating their position at the top with 20 points and leaving KKR still stuck on 12 points and out of the competition.

Then DD beat MI in Delhi and leave Ambani's team stranded at 12 points and out of the competition.

Finally, CSK beat KXIP, confirming their second place with 18 points and leaving KXIP with 12 points and out of the competition.

That was, we will get a very satisfactory playoffs with SRH, CSK, RCB and RR, the last two team's positions deccided by NRR bit both will be in the eliminator.

And their one man is in great form and gets them home with a 90 odd off stuff all balls to move into 5th spot on the run scoring charts with his 5th 50 in a row.

But someone else besides him and Samson may have to do something at some point. Short has been dire. Stokes has barely made a score. Rahane is just too slow. Binny I expect nothing from.

He can be destructive like MI's Lewis but has not had the chance to get used to IPL conditions. In any case, he was included only because Ish Sodhi was not fit fot last night's match; if he recovers for the next one, RR will drop Short and get a local man to open with Buttler.

RR look like they have optimised their lineup as the tournament progressed. Buttler as an opener was a success, as was bringing in Joffra Archer. Gowtham can bowl well and do fast cameos with the bat when required and Ish Sodhi bowed superbly before becoming unfit for the last match. I know that Stokes has not done anything worthwhile as yet but his bowling was much better in the last match and he might improve with the bat as he gets used to the conditions.

Especially after they beat defending champions MI twice, I am beginning to wonder if they could be dark horses for the title.

Another fuck-up of a season for KXIP. Nothing new here.

As an RCB fan, I should be pleased with the result, especially as this also improves RCBs NRR. I AM pleased but also disappointed at the same time because I just realised this result increases the chance of bloody MI getting a lifeline. I'd rather see my team lose than see MI win.
