This is a strong England side who are sure to have a plan to restrict Guptill and Munro in the first 10 overs.

A lot depends on how well Williamson anchors the NZ side.

Hales will make way for Stokes.

My money is on England for the series win.

Slept through this one but England seemed to have played well. New Zealand just came out on top, Taylor managed to be the difference between the sides today.

All of England’s bowling figures look healthy.

England's arrogance cost them by setting a defensive field during the Taylor partnership allowing a multitude of easy singles and twos. Better they kept the field up and forced the mistake.

Get on England Wednesday when they get their revenge.

Bumble and Nasser were overconfident in the pregame. A sure sign the coach was likewise.

Not for game one but for the series. So I still have a show but need the next game IMO or I'm in trouble.

Kane is being a cut above the rest in the second game. Hit a century amongst a score of 218/8 chasing about 235 to win. Roughly 20 needed off 12

5 needed from 2! Williamson smacks a game defining six that I think might have sealed the deal for the Kiwis. Sharp running too.

Fine leg is up...

A great innings would've won the game. Its not like he didn't have plenty of opportunity :)

What a fantastic win for New Zealand!

Two centurions for England, at one time cruising at 267/1 after 37-odd overs, getting to 335 (still a good score).
Having both Guptill and Munro in the hut for ducks, NZ 2/2 after 2.4 overs.

And then to lose it from there!
I SO love England for this.

What an innings from Ross Taylor. Unfortunately this is just another bilateral series, not a World Cup game.
So the series will be forgotten in a few days - but that should not take away from his fabulous knock!

Btw, where is Paddles nowadays? Not seen him here for a while. Hope he's ok.

Cricinfo seems to suggest that Porterfield has captained Ireland across all formats in more matches than Alastair Cook has led England
Across all formats.

That doesn’t seem right somehow given that Ireland have only two formats to England’s three, and play less cricket than England, even if cook didn’t captain in many ODI games or I think ever in t20

Not sure I understand this warm-up scorecard. New Zealand's XI played out 96-odd overs with two centuries in the middle-lower order, but Tom Latham is not out with 10 from 40 balls having opened the innings?

Surely England's depth would be enough to get them over the line in this short test series?

Root for some time in the middle though which is good. Super psyched that leach might play. That crane nightmare better not come back.

Come on leach do what Swann did with his debut. And never look back!

Really hope Leach does well. He just looks the part to me & I always like England to have a slow lefty rather than an offy. He certainly saw off Crane in the West Indies, but Crane was just a crazy pick in the first place. Fingers crossed. Looking forward to the Tests. On another issue, why are these Tests so late in the season in NZ?

perhaps they are not planned matches but are “filler” cricket in between other important matches and the ECB boss don’t want employees idle.

i am not big fan of tour games where scorecards read 200/13 etc.

Ben Stokes is back in Test cricket. Equally big news - England captain Joe Root will bat at No. 3, with James Vince given the boot. New Zealand have won the toss and they will bowl.

i expect the english to be all out by end of day. ;)
