Just checked Watto's stats.
Batting average of 35.19, bowling average of 33.68, bowling SR of 73.2

Mitch is at
Batting 29.73, bowling 39.28, bowling SR of 68.09.

So he still has some way to go, improve 6 points each in batting and bowling.

But considering how he's improved since the Ashes, I think he can only improve on his stats.

Was a bit surprised to see Watto's stats, actually.
He used to annoy me no end for his lbws, but overall 35 is fairly respectable.

that's a good trick by Philander to avoid lbws...short pads

Watson should've tried that tactic

Mitch is just hitting his straps. Expect him to be the best Aussie all rounder since Keith "nugget" Miller.

ABdV could take the game from us unless we remove him early today. Cummins improving with every game. Our best quick again. Tho I was super impressed with Hazlewood's reverse swing skill. Mitch Marsh was also impressive. Border can eat his words that Aussie bowlers can not reverse the ball.

Who will supports ABD ON DAY 3? LEAD IS NOTHING

Big question is do you think AUSTRALIANS apply same as Edgar and Amla ? Only Cameron / Paine and Smithy can do that, still count on Aus 2/0

Now the South Africans are accusing the Australians (Warner) of ball tampering.
It never ends.

S Marsh can also if he gets thru first 30 balls. Khawaja too bats time.. but he is in sad form after a decent Ashes.

There needs to be some serious application by Australias middle order.

Ussie comes in spinner comes on same time. A walking wicket.

it seems like every wicket in this match is either bowled, lbw or caught behind
maybe some catches at short leg. no catches in slips, infield or outfield. very odd compared to cricket in Australia.

Bancroft undoes all the good work driving at too full a ball and chopping on. Another start for him.

That is normal for Smithy. For someone that appears so figety he belies it with nerves of steel. We need one of his special knocks. Uz, specially needs to make amends for us having this big deficit.

Expect to see the ball start to reverse shortly. SAffers survived all we could throw at them yesterday. Can we do the same and knock off the deficit by stumps.

South Africa's bottom 3 wickets scored more than Australia's top 3

apart from the fact Smith's decision to bat was wrong, South Africa have just played better in all departments in this match

Not over yet. Yes Smith definitely erred not bowling first on this deck. All the momentum we carried into this Test has now eroded. Now time for someone to stand up and do a Smith.

Time for Usman Khawaja to play the most important innings of his life

South Africa have played the media game well too, its completely unsettled the Australians. The momentum after the first test was lost once the media jumped all over Warner, Smith, Lyon, Paine etc for being bad sports...which was straight after the first test.

The hidden camera leak was a total set up.

Hurtling towards 1-1.
As has been mentioned before, this is a weak batting line-up.
Smith, or the lower order, were somehow shoring it up.
And our bowlers were doing a decent job - saving us embarrrassment.

Here, with Smith failing, and our bowlers not able to contain SA to under 300 (AB firing, for once!), it is all falling apart now.

I still have faith that this is just a bleep on the radar raja. This series is following in the same pattern as the one 4 years ago. Australia won then 2-1.. in fact ( I stand corrected) we have won every series here since Sth Africas readmission in 1992/3.

I'm not his biggest critic here. I think he's been messed around a bit with selection on tour.

Its been an okay innings so far, but really needs 100 more than what he has now. Its a bit like Amla's innings... some nice shots mixed with some scratchy play and some luck.

These sort of Khawaja innings are very annoying.
If he turns this into a match-winning innings, I'd salute him - but I'm pretty sure he won't.
He's done enough to save his spot - that's what this innings is all about.

Out for 75.
Exactly as expected.
Saves his spot - but doesn't do enough to give Australia a chance of saving the game.

come on. it won’t hurt to praise a performer. man up and say he did good inspite of hardships on this match conditions. Khawaja delivered beyond his capabilities and must be appreciated. It’s not his fault that all other Aussie batsmen suck!! Give credit where it’s due. Furthermore It’s hitting below belt if you say he played to save his spot etc bullshit. it’s not him but YOUR POST that’s ANNOYING.

Uzz with valuable runs but sadly not the big 100 that was needed.

I am seeing a growing maturity in Mitch Marsh this year. He looks more confortable at the crease..
He is more patient and building an innings rather that perishing early with a rash stroke.

His defensive play has specially improved. Is playing with softer hands and note the way he is playing the defensive ball under his eyes now. When he made that 90odd several years ago in the UAE I said then he would be our best genuine all rounder since Miller. I have not changed my mind about that. He may even turn out to be better than Nugget. Now that would be something.

Now it is up to Mitch. Timmy, Cummo and Starc to get us a competitive total. We have one of the worlds most potent attacks and bowled without a lot of luck in the first innings.. so am not writing our boys off just yet.

Exactly as expected.
Saves his spot - but doesn't do enough to give Australia a chance of saving the game.

yep and probably should've caught Maharaj on the boundary
that cost us about 59 runs
Definitely not probably. He was just too slow on the presence of mind to release the ball. He undid the excellent catch with his laid back attitude. This is practised ad finitum in T 20 cricket. Did Uz even play BBL this year.

I think its all over, in the first hour after lunch as new ball with Rabada will be key who already took 8 wickets
Axar & Chahal failed to take wicket at Banglore vs Proteas A
