Its funny how the Australians are getting constantly criticised for 'chatter' in the field by the media and sundry while a South African bowler from Faf's holier than thou XI looks to be in a bit of trouble for an aggressive send off.

Obviously Faf's XI believe they have the moral high ground and can act with impunity so you cant blame the bowler for following the example which has been set.

South African media spin: Smith shoulder barges Rabada after being dismissed in first innings :lmao:

Our batsmen have let down our bowlers.
243 looks better than what a 182/8 could've ended up with, but I think is still below par.
Can't expect our bowlers to bail us out everytime.

SA will get the lead, only question is how much.
Our batsmen need to bat much better in the second innings.
1-1 beckons.

Looking at how Australian batsmen collapsed from a strong position, the performance of BCCI batsmen in the test series against South Africa is looking quite OK to me .

There's very little between the top 4 teams when home ground advantage decides most series and the odd test is won abroad.

pack of dogs

I think there's an element of social justice warrior virtue signaling to all of this

I believe South Africa are deliberately using it as a tactic in the media to paint the Australian's as bad sports to put them off their game. Its successfully distracted from the fact they lost the first test and they have the upper hand in the second so far.

Where is the seam movement that was so prominent yesterday. Pitch looks much the same. Want at least one more wicket before lunch. Lyon needs to contribute more than he is.

This match is rapidly slipping away from Australia.
Smith's decision to bat is looking like a stupid one.

Lyon was great in the first innings at Durban. So were the other bowlers so opportunities were limited.
He wasn't great in the second. That's it. He's bowled well here but conditions aren't favourable. You have an anti Lyon agenda like Paddles has an anti Cummins agenda.

32 7 0-86. You aint kidding he wasnt great in second innings. I have no anti Lyon agenda. Call it as I see it. Lyon has made great improvements over past 18 months/2yrs but is and will always be over rated IMO. He does not build sufficient pressure.

check his strike rate and look at what he has to bowl on most of the time in Australia
its better than Richie Benaud

SA look like they're determined to win this one.
We've become a bit lax in this game.

This is like the debate my mate Mike and I have over the merits of Josh Hazlewood. All too often he gets roads to bowl on when he needs grass to seam the ball. There were times when Lyon has excellent bowling conditions in the sub continent and has come up short. Bet he wasnt striking at 62 then. Granted Lyons st rt is superior to Benaud but not his econ rate or average. Their respective runs conceded per no of balls bowled is chalk and cheese.

Test cricket run rates are a lot faster across the board in the current era.

Meanwhile Lyon has bowled 11 overs for 13 runs here.

Shane Warne had bad days in India too, and the West Indies and South Africa

I concede Lyon is a far better bowler these days.

Wickets and conserving runs is what is needed this session. We need an inspired spell from someone.. along lines of Robada yesterday.

I am not watching but Elgar has a weird technique. He got hit by all Indian fast bowlers.

Works for him, I suppose. He showed real character when South Africa wanted to call off the test after Elgar got hit. Played his heart out.

I still think match is in the air.Team batting last always has to bat on a pitch having some variable bounce.

If Australia has the lead or South Africa lead within 50, Australia can win.

stay classy CSA - keep that moral high ground

CSA apologises to Australia for mask slip-up

South Africa correspondent, ESPNcricinfo

Cricket South Africa has issued an apology to Cricket Australia after two CSA officials were photographed posing with fans, who were wearing Sonny Bill Williams masks at St George's Park.

Clive Eksteen, a former left-arm spinner and CSA's head of commercial, and Altaaf Kazi, CSA's head of media and communication, posed for a picture with three fans wearing masks on the first day of the Test. The photo was shared on social media and then picked up by the Sydney Morning Herald , who wrote that the Australian team were "outraged." CSA said it would follow its "normal internal processes," with regards to Eksteen and Kazi, which will likely begin with an internal investigation.

"On behalf of CSA I extend my sincere apologies to the Board of Cricket Australia, its officials, team management, players and their families," CSA president, Chris Nenzani said.

The Williams' masks were brought into the ground as an attempt to ridicule David Warner, who was involved in a stairwell spat with Quinton de Kock during the first Test in Durban. Warner was fined 75% of his match fee and earned three demerit points for the incident, later claiming de Kock had made a "vile and disgusting comment," about his wife Candice. De Kock admitted to saying something in a hearing that took place on Wednesday and was fined 25% of his match fee with one demerit point added to his record.

Candice had an encounter with Williams 11 years ago, before she had met Warner and South African fans hoped to use that to antagonise the opening batsman. The day before the Port Elizabeth Test, social media posts, including one by a reporter (who is not working on this game) with the host broadcaster SuperSport shared photographs of fans making Williams' masks and of a songbook with lyrics containing vulgar and derogatory language. While the songs were not heard at St George's Park, the masks were seen but only after CSA officials had to intervene to allow mask-wearing fans into the stadium.

Initially, stadium security had refused to allow them in because of what Kazi called a "misunderstanding," though it is not clear on whose instructions the security were initially acting. Kazi and Eksteen were then contacted by the fans and met them at the gates, where it was decided that they would be allowed in. According to Kazi, the group of fans then asked for a photo with him and Eksteen and the pair obliged.

"We found out because (the spectators) contacted us and we then went to security and got them in. They said 'let's take a photo with you guys," Kazi told SMH.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo shortly after the story broke last night, Kazi admitted it was "one of the worst judgment calls I have made," and expressed regret over his actions.

Meanwhile, CSA had reiterated that freedom of expression will be respected, within the limits of their own guidelines for spectator behaviour, which does not tolerate any racism, sexism or derogatory comments. A statement read: "While CSA respects the rights of its fans to represent their own points of view, CSA does not associate itself with these actions and urges all Protea supporters from refraining from being involved in distasteful or unwelcome actions that may impact the image of the sport and its supporters."

Best spell of reverse swing I have seen by Hazlewood .. now has his reward with the wicket of Elgar. Baggies back in the contest with those two after tea.
