Has scored loads of runs in domestic competition in the last couple of years.
Knocking on the doors for a while now.

Has been generally poor in the IPL though.

Prithvi Shaw is the real deal.
If he doesn't lose his way, he could be every bowler's nightmare for the next 15-20 years.
Like Kohli is today.

Jadeja with his first test hundred. Downhill skiing at its finest, but still a wonderful achievement for him to mention everytime he meets Shane Warne.

His stats are now outstanding, and he is India's best fieldsman (with Kohli). Well done.

Ashwin to Chase, no run, dropped by Pant. This length ball jumps up at Chase in the corridor. He plays on the back foot with an open face and Pant jumps late as this gets big on him. Hard hands as a result and he can't hold on on the second attempt to his right, with a dive

----------

Pant's keeping is a nightmare. He is okay as a batsman, not a keeper.

Jadeja to Bishoo, 2 runs, dropped by Pant again. This is a big deviationbut Pant's static. The arms haven't moved at all. Length ball outside off. He defends inside the line and gets a big edge. Deflected past slip off Pant's gloves

Ashwin to Gabriel, 4 byes, why did he do that?! beaten on the inside edge as he looks to tonk Ashwin over long-on. It's lobbed up generously outside off and he doesn't get anywhere close to this. There's plenty of bounce too as it beats him and Pant can't stop to his left

Not easy choices. Saha hopeless with the bat but is quite decent with the gloves.

Pant is a far better batsman but is bad with the gloves.

Now if you want me to say that India has a better home record than New Zealand or England (in recent times). Sure. NZ's rise has started since about 2012 or so.

Does that make you feel better? But the point remains, away wins mean more in the modern game because Ind, SA, NZ , Aus and Eng are all defending home turf well.

Unlike many cricket fans, I do not believe that cricket needs a global super power team like Aus 90/2000 or WI 1970/80/90's to thrive. But that does not mean that the teams should not strive to be the best that they can be and emulate themselves into one.

As a NZ fan, I quite enjoy just seeing the NZC team win at home (because before it was losses everywhere). But a win away would be nice. NZ ought to have won in 2015 in England and blew a golden opportunity.

SA with its ability to win away when Amla, ABdV and Steyn/MMorkel/Philander/Abbott were at their peak has been the most impressive team for me in modern times. But even they dropped series at home to Aus and Eng. But I suspect that the SA batting now with Amla's decline and ABdV's retirement is going to be far weaker than it was to continue to emulate that success despite Maharaj, Rabada and Ngidi.

No, you're just guessing or assuming where I'm coming from. I am quite sure that you rarely understand me.

Stop assuming.

I love Indian food and their passion for cricket. I even watch IPL games.

Kabbadi - not my thing.

In NZ - almost ubiquitously - if I meet an Indian man - I find that can discuss cricket with him at an above average level. I love cricket! And its just not that popular in NZ. But Indians migrate here by the ton.

So get your head out of your ass hater! If I didn't love cricket - I wouldn't be posting on here as much as I do.

So talk cricket - and not hate. Because for me - they're mutually exclusive.

I am even a unashamedly a fan of 'Sidhuisms'. I think he's fantastic as a cricket 'philosopher'.

Predictable win - by a huge margin.
This is a really poor Windies side, made even worse without Holder.
I watched a fair bit of the Windies batting - disappointing to see that lack of skill AND lack of application on the part of their batsmen.
Much like BCCI in the first 2 Tests in England this year - both skill and application missing.
To Windies' credit though, at least their world ranking doesn't fool anyone.

Anyone else think Ashwin isn't fully fit? Or is on the decline?
He managed to pick a few (come on, against this Windies side, even I'd fancy my chances :-)), but this wasn't the Ashwin of a year ago - he seems to me to have lost that domination over batsmen at home. I hope I'm wrong. Maybe he's not fully recovered.

Jadeja finally seems to be performing to potential.
We always knew he was a better batsman than his scores suggested.
True, this was easy opposition - but you still have to make the most of it.
And his bowling was very good too - as it usually is, at home.
Ever since his return, he seems to be working even harder to deliver.
There's a lot of competition for spots in Team BCCI - no one (except Kohli) can take his place for granted.

Happy to see Prithvi do well.
Yes, weak opposition - but even so, you have to put them away.
Which he did very well.

Boring game.
47 after 22 overs on the first morning.

But they've lost only one wicket - that's encouraging.

It is these sort of Tests that give Test cricket a bad name.

Re: India vs West Indies: 2 Tests, 5 ODI & 3 T20I; October 04 to November 11, 2018 in India

I watched the game only off and on today, but I can't help feeling Ashwin is on the way down.
His figures might look very economical but his bowling is nowhere as dangerous as it was even a year ago.
I think he's lost a lot of confidence - so maybe he's trying too hard.
Whatever, he's not the Ashwin who just had to turn up to bowl - and would pick up wickets by bucketloads in home conditions.

Maybe it's the competition - Kuldeep is doing well, Jadeja is doing well, Chahal is breathing down his neck.

Besides, he's just returned from injury - I don't know if he has fully recovered.

His batting has also declined of late.

I'm tempted to suggest that he shouldn't be on that flight to Australia.

Holder again!

Nice to see RChase find some form again. Hope he tons up tomorrow.

Holder really is the glue far too often for this WI batting.

Credit to Windies for getting past 300 in a Test in India.
Unlikely to be enough, considering BCCI's brute batting strength, but at least they've shown some fight here.
Very well done, Roston.
And Holder continues to impress.

311/8 now. Now to take that to 350.

Well done, Umesh.
While I often troll BCCI batsmen and even the spinners, I have a lot of time for the quicks. :-)

Kohli gone for 45.

Our boys are definitely putting on a better show here.

If they somehow set BCCI 200 to win, and Bishoo can do some magic, you never know.

Come on boys, you can do it!

Pant and Rahane ensuring India will not lose by a very big margin. Already one bowler short from the 4th over itself.

This is Windies game to lose.

Swashbuckling 70 by Prithvi Shaw. KL Rahul looks clueless.

Would have liked a couple of wickets before the close - but Pant and Rahane took it away from us.
Hopefully we'll come back fresh tomorow morning and knock over a few, getting them for 420-430.
We'll then need to bat really well again.

Am hoping we can set them at least 200 in the second innings.
We have Bishoo, Chase and Warrican - and Holder and Gabriel can also produce inspired spells.
So, though BCCI are totally on top, am hoping they'll have a shocker of a second innings.

Only way its possible (200 chase) if Westindies repeat 311/335 again vs Kuldeep/jadeja.

Last six innings by W.i in India before 2018 two test tour:161,158,196
188,119,179

Good Luck Hope & Chase.
Herath (430 W) to retire after Galle (1st vs Eng) test, R.Hadlee (431),Broad (433) & Kapil (434)
