Forum nostalgia thread :-)
Creating this new thread to keep the discussion on forum nostalgia here, instead of hijacking the Ashes thread (2nd Test at Adelaide). :-)
Please continue with nostalgia discussion here.

Not a bad choice Raja often posted a wordy century on this forum in the good old days.
He is a better wordsmith than most when he gets his eye in.

The closest if not actual wordsmith I've encountered here was striped lungi. Yes I know he fooled around and talked a lot of crap, displaying cricket was rarely his forte, but he did so while utilising and demonstrating a vast vocabulary with excellent use thereof (as well as an impressive general knowledge). His command of the English language would put most if not almost all native speakers to shame.
The word you're looking for to describe raja is presumably raconteur.
There's a difference between the two. One is skilled with words themselves, one is skilled at telling (cricket) anecdotes.

Wordsmith was the metaphorical choice using words as in accumulating runs. Raconteur did not fit.
Boycs was after Raja to bolster the middle order.

The forum outside match and selection threads is poorer without him.

Absolutely. Striped Lungi, Asterix, Going South, Squarecut, Shalini (me too) are founder members. Raja joined in immediately after the forum was created alongwith Ankur. Oldtimer, Scud , ITG and Bharath.
Most of the forum's development (hard work put in) is because of Striped Lungi, Going South, Asterix and Ankur.

I was horrified the other week when I noticed how long ago I joined this forum. (Edit: oh my god SEVEN YEARS!)
I remember the names you put in your other post, and used to converse regularly with lungi via PM I believe he’s the only one here who ever knew my first name and vice versa.
Underneath his lunacy he always seems a real nice bloke.
Of course everyone is nice here

I joined this forum in may 2005. 12 years have passed.
During these 12 years period, I have met Raja and Asterix in 2010. I have stayed within 150 km of Striped Lungi for some three years (without meeting him).

Remember the old forum? I had another handle then.
Bolero, Raja, SuperGLS.Ankur, I could go on were here then and others like Shorty are gone.
Shorty PM'd me about joining another forum but it was pretty average.
Been away myself nice to be back.
Maybe Ted Ward will write a few of his stories for us again.

Thanks maybe compared to fellow Aussies Roy and Verity at the time
A bit of a secret for you.
I had Carl Rackemann and Alvin Kallicharan staying at our house but at different times and they both posted for fun two or three times.
Alvin replied to raja without his knowing who it was in one post I remember.
Alvin really liked the forum and read it bigtime.

Wow. Fan of both Kallicharan and Rackemann. Saw a few old videos of both. Kallicharan , known name among cricket lovers in India, especially those following cricket in the 70's.

Alvin a nicer man you will never meet.He is a friend of Dad from way back and was Queensland's Sheffield import player.
Maybe I will throw in a Viv Richards story later on and Botham as well.
Alvin is still promoting world cricket and is based in the US.

VFE cut his own throat in the end I believe.Had good knowledge but strong opinions not always right.
Never did see the posts that finally got him the chop but got a whisper via PM that he went way too far.
Sometimes you need a character with strong opinions as long as they are well founded.
Katto comes closest IMO currently.

Forum nostalgia thread :-)
Just to add a bit to the nostalgia comments on this thread - will just say we've had many interesting characters, each adding his (and the occasional her) flavour to the forum. Been here 12-and-a-half years now, starting with that disastrous 2005 summer when we were cheated.
Looking back, despite the odd difference of opinion, I think I got along with practically everyone here. Heck, I even get along with Misty! :-)
