Turkey coup attempt

Postby bharathh » Wed Jul 20, 2016 11:55 am

Surprise not to see a thread about the coup here.

What do you think about it?

I think it was staged by Edrogan using patsies to purge his opponents from all facets of the government. IMO, he's the new Stalin.

Oh. They want to pin it on US also. I know it's a drama from get go and did not give much importance.

Staged or not, Turkey is fast going downhill now.

Erdogan was already showing signs of taking Turkey back to more orthodox times - and that, before the coup.

Heaven knows what he is going to do now - he's already arrested/dismissed/suspended 1000s of folks.

And in all this, he is a "democratically elected" leader, so many countries (including the US and India) welcomed him back when the coup failed. Spoutin words about how democracy won, and stuff like that.

I have my own views on democracy - the theory and the practice but that is material for another post. :-)

Gulen is the one fomenting extremism in Turkey, not Erdogan. Dont believe everything you read.

Erdogan has turned toward Russia and this is why the NATO who run the military in Turkey want Erdogan out

I read mostly western media. US/UK in particular.
They're largely concerned about Erdogan consolidating his power and turning Turkey into an even more unstable country than it already is.
Europe is directly affected, as Turkey is a conduit for migrants from Syria/Iraq.

Already more recruits might have been created for IS since the failed coup.
