How are these guys so invincible? I mean I don't think the players are that great skill wise. I know they play with a lot of discipline - but I still can't understand how they are so far ahead of the rest of the pack. I heard they thrashed even Netherlands in the final of the World cup recently.

Yes, they thrashed the Netherlands recently in the World Cup final. The scoreline was 6-1, I think.

Very unlikely that India will beat them in the final - but one can always hope. Like they say, ummeed pe duniya kaayam hai. :-) (It is hope that keeps the world going).

Young Liam Pitchford played superbly beating India no 1 TT player and double CWG gold medallist Sharath Kamal for the bronze medal.

India has too many silvers this time. 28 at last count. Conversion to gold medals could have been better.

But after all the internal wranglings and politics which led to India's Olympic Association nearly being banned, with insufficient practice, the athletes have done well.

One should'nt be misled by this showing. The standard at the Asian Games and the Olympics is far superior to the commonwealth.

Countries like Australia, England, Canada and India are bullies in the Commonwealth when it comes to medals. At the Olympics, the competition is 10 times greater.

Yes. That said Wrestling did great this time. Out of 14 athletes 13 medalled

5 golds, 6 silvers and 3 bronze. Too many silvers there. Some favs lost their nerve in the final bout for some reason. Still great show. Hoping for good things from them in the Asian games to follow.

The weightlifters (including powerlifters) too were pretty awesome. 14 medals out of 18 - 3G 5S 6B. Don't expect much from them at the Asian games though against the Chinese and central asians. The shooters (4G 9S 4B) were very disappointing IMO. Some of the world champs messed up the finals after leading comfortably in the qualification stages like Gagan Narang, Vijay Kumar, Heena Sidhu and Mansher Singh. I hope they do better in the Asian games. Shooting form is a little harder to predict that the other sports. Very small margins for error in the sport. Boxing,TT and athletics were huge disappointments this time around. All the athletes looked completely out of form. Still given that we lost a lot of events that we generally medal in Scotland the team did pretty well.

I don't think anyone is misled by these performances. However it's a good thing for the non-cricket athletes to get some publicity for their work. I mean come on... there are so many meaningless cricket competitions that we watch without a fuss. Don't know why we can't let these guys have their moment in the sun.

I agree , Bharath.

These winners from India are here inspite of the system, not because of the system.

Also media is playing a big role in ' hyping ' up cricket at the cost of the other sports.

I was surprised with PV Sindhu's bronze in the women's individual badminton event. She should have won Gold IMHO, she is among the top women's badminton players in the world inspite of the absence of Saina Nehwal who skipped the event.

One from Badminton now. Could win one more if the ladies doubles' final goes our way. Doubtful given that they've lost the first game though.

England has destroyed everyone else in this competition! They must be thrilled to displace Aus from the top of the standings.

First time since 1986 - (also held in Scotland). I guess Scotland is their lucky charm for the CWG.
