Wimbledon 2014

Postby raja » Sat Jun 28, 2014 7:20 pm

Normally i don't post on a tennis Grand Slam thread as long as a British player is still in the men's singles draw but now that Andy has won Wimbledon once, I am breaking this rule for myself.

Today's big news is that Serena Williams is out. First time she's been knocked out so early since 2005.

Looks like Murray's gonna retain the title.
Somehow, I don't care too much about this anymore.

Sharapova is out too.

So both French Open champions went out on the same day.

I have a feeling that Federer may win this one.

This draw has really opened up for Federer, should make the Final at least; Djoka v Federer, Federer could win that on current form.

thats because he's the best player in history
however he's not as good as he used to be and 10% is actually quite a lot of players

Raonic and Kyrgios look really good to become the future of tennis. Both have lovely games!

its about time we have some good players
been so long since we had a decent aussie player you'd want to support

Kyrgios rates another greek-aussie up and comer too as more talented than him... however tennis is mostly played above the shoulders and Kyrgios seems to have it

Federer should have won that in the 5th. He lost focus in that game he could not break Djokovic's serve at the end.

Roger - 29 ; Novak - 13 - Aces || Novak 4/15 ; Roger - 3/7 - Break points won

In the end Novak won, it was easily Roger's game. Novak played like Dhoni and Roger choked like Sachin in the last game.

Watching it you always thought Novak was going to win, Federer is still class but he struggles against Nadal, Novak and Murray now adays, his generally in the game but he just can't win.

There was that period in the final set when Djokovic showed signs of mental weakness.
If I remember correctly, he even double faulted.

The Federer of yore would have capitalised on this and finished him off.
But today's Federer seems more likely to leave the door open just that bit.
And you can't do that in a Wimbledon final and expect the opponent to not use it.

Federer was going along well in the 5th set - and then suddenly seemed to choke a bit. I clearly remember an overhead smash shot that he would have put away 19 out of 20 times.

Novak got a chance to get his hopes back - and stayed on course as Federer fell away a bit.

It was a terrific match - but like Novak said later (though he didn't probably mean it literally), Federer allowed him to win.

Even after Federer had won the first set, I was of the view that Nole would win but after Fed's come back in the 4th set winning 4-5 games in a row I thought he will win with all the momentum and confidence but Nole is too much of a fighter and a better player ATM.

Yup

Novak should have won 3-0, then 4-0 then 5-0. He let Fed back into the match when he was right on top. Losing last three finals must have been playing on his mind.
