USA
Australia
Qatar.

I think Qatar is only there for the FIFA to appear to care about the Middle-East.
The contest is effectively between the USA and Australia.

And considering the USA has missed out on a few bids recently (Even Obama's personal pitch for the Olympics did not work), I think the USA could win this one. Let's not forget that the USA has emerged as a top footballing nation in the last 10 years or so. And is only getting better as more and more Americans take to the sport.

Though they still call it soccer.

not sure they're a top footballing nation yet considering their offense is still based on counter attack
sure they beat Spain at the pointless Confed Cup, but I remember the Socceroos beat Brazil and France at that same tournament in 2001

Well thats not decided yet is it?

So

North America, Europe, Asia, Europe, Africa, South America, 2018, 2022

Seems to me its N America, Europe, Asia in that order for 18, 22, 26

I voted USA because that is where I want it to be from purely business reasons  ( Probably won't matter by the time we get to 2022 though!)

Apparently building soccer specific stadiums is the cool thing to do in the MLS now with another one opening in the Philly area just last week. So maybe the US has a chance.

Qatar though? Really? How many grounds can they have? The country isn't even that big!

they have limitless funds and will build some temporary stadiums that they will dismantle and donate to needy neighbors after the cup
plus they're very close to much larger population countries surrounding them
Bin Hamman the FIFA executive who is also the AFC president is a Qatari and good mates with Blatter

Allthough I believe Qatar or Australia should get it, I will go with the USA.

At the end of the day, TV revenues will play a major role in defining who wins the bid to host the world cup. When Japan / Korea hosted the world cup in 2002, the TV ratings in Europe dropped a lot compared to 1998 (France), and they went up again in 2006 when Germany hosted it. However, with China emerging as the largest TV market, it may alter the equation. I'm not sure about Chinese TV audience being ranked above that of the European ones, when it comes to choosing the primetime slots.

The Australian time zone is a problem for the primetime slots of the European viewers. This could jeopardize the Australian bid to host the world cup games. Or the Aussies should be ready to host the games at unscheduled hours like how the West Indies did during the 20-20 cricket world cup (9 a.m. start for a 20-20 game) to placate the Indian cricket audience.

It’s the same with the Commonwealth games opening ceremony, wherein the Australian Broadcasting Corporation are putting their foot down to make the opening ceremony start at 5.30 p.m. IST, instead of 7 p.m., so that the viewers in Australia (the major TV stakeholders of the games) get to see them at a reasonable hour of their day.
