Yes it was a great result considering our forwards were missing some 1st teamers. Wales are also suffering with injuries so this was a difficult one to call what with Wales being at home.
England now have Italy at home, so should have that one in the bag.

Italy nearly pulled off a famous win yesterday! I thought the France - Scotland game was good.

I don't know a lot about Rugby but do enjoy watching the games and I am learning a little

Yeah Ireland were hit by a lot of injuries, Kearney, Bowe, Heaslip, Ferris etc, either way we got the points and have a hard game against France next week in Dublin,

Ireland - France tomorrow. :D

Today's big story England 59-13 Italy - 4 Ashton tries! WOW!

And the most boring game of Rugby I have ever watched - Scotland 6-24 Wales

Great result for England, and they are really coming together as a squad with depth. Corbisiero had a good debut, and Wood had a good 2nd game. MJ will have to think hard once Moody is back, as the backrow is playing well. Haskell has eliminated many mistakes and had a great game in the loose.

Irishopener: I agree with you. The Irish havent become bad overnight....they have injuries to key players and i have no doubt they will all return for England in Dublin :(
I have always believed they will be our biggest threat this year, and even with their two results so far, that hasnt changed.

Hi IO, yes i watched it here in Thailand with a start at Midnight. I wish i'd gone to bed :(

Yes we did win the 6N and that is an achievement in itself considering where we have been for the last few years. Too much emphasis is put on a Slam, but thats not the case in the Tri-Nations. A championship win is celebrated, yet the mood in England is as if we lost the championship.

As to the game....Ireland were just outstanding, and they need to be asking themselves why they cant find the consistancy that would give them the rewards this group of players deserve. Its WC year, and surely this time they will play to their potential as unfortunately its the last hurrah for many of them.
England were as poor as the Irish were sublime, and the 17-3 HT score was a good reflection and could of been worse.
Ben Youngs has not had a great 6N IMO, and up to his SB, i think he was absolutely hopeless. His tapping of the Irish 9 at the scrum, just 2ft in front of the ref, was just plain childish and i would drop him just for that. The resulting attack from the penalty almost brought a try, and it was evident the Irish were massively lifted, and in the end they got 3pts and went on regardless. And then throwing the ball away when in fact no Irish were near him was again stupid. I was hoping MJ would replace him with Care and he did. Care has sorted out some of his faults, and IMO he has been the better 9 out of the two.
Ive been calling for Shaw to be dropped, and again another game where he makes ball handling errors has gone by. And when Heaslip stole the ball from him under the Irish posts like candy from a baby....words failed me. If Deacon and Shaw are in the top 4 of Locks we can find, then we are in the mire.... journeymen at most.

Plus points for England have been the finds of Woods and Corbisiero at this level.

So....1 in cricket and 1 in Rugby....thankfully we dont meet you in the European Championship.
Well done

Nice review Jim :), it's very true, on a Irish Rugby forum I use, people can't understand why we can't play like this all the time, maybe I'm looking through my Irish glasses but I think even the mighty NZ would have found it hard against Ireland on that performance,

I'm not a Sexton fan, it's like a civil war over here, you're either Sexton or O'Gara ;), then England took Johnny of the bench and we took O'Gara, only if O'Gara could tackle properly ,

The World Cup will be interesting, I can't wait for it, will you go to any of the games?...

Nice to see the Cricket team mentioned at the end of the bbc coverage too.

The England team has certainly come along way in the last two years.

I doubt i'll be taking a trip to NZ for the tourny, but i will be glued to a tv somewhere.

Sexton took all the plaudits, but he is only as good as the runners around him, and they were brilliant on saturday. O'Gara is ok on front foot, but weak going backwards. The game was over by the time he came on and all he had to do was tactically keep us at bay with his quality kicking game. As bad as England were, they were not allowed to have the ball in areas they wanted and that was down to the Irish.

England have progressed Ted, but as in the AIs, we take steps forward then back. As long as we learn and improve from this, then i'll be pleased. And its good to keep a perspective on our abilities rather than listen to the media-led hype that had the WC won already. I always said that IMO this game in Dublin was the hardest and it turned out that way.

For the WC, i'd put NZ and the Boks ahead of all, with England, Australia and Ireland next. France are France....in that mix or lower depending on how they feel on the day.

Think on current form, Adam Ashley Cooper is much better than Stealing Mortlock though. The Aussie back line is pretty awesome.

I think it says more about Italy developing. Will be interesting to see if they get any more scalps this year besides Scotlands. They Play Wales and Ireland at home this year.

Nope. French are only good when they play good teams for some reason. Always throwing risky streaky passes that occasionally come off. But only they could lose to Italy, apart from Scotland. Don't expect Italy to beat anyone else.

I'm watching the English beat Ireland right now.

Ireland look like the US out there, handling errors every possession. Sure it's raining, but come on, I thought this was elite rugby?

Time for the second half.

Just too many errors from Ireland. A missed penalty doesn't help, though England misses one too.

5 minutes to go, 6-12.

Northern hemisphere. Usually described as a penalty fest when NH play each other. Always kick the ball away, won't run it etc.

They might have done that end of last year. I am sure I remember them still using crouch, touch, pause, engage last year. They change scrum rules every other year so it's hard to keep track of them all.

Oo England on the verge of a grand slam. They are certainly looking pretty good this season. In fact I don't think they've looked this good since 03.

Hope Wales win though by over 7 points. Not a big fan of England winning slams / six nation titles.

Italy beats Ireland.

Wales just broke the match open and then my stream failed. 30-3 now.

Take that England! 27 point beat down and Wales take the Six Nations.

So England are out of the Six Nations?

I know nothing about rugby but one doesn't need to know anything to celebrate England's being knocked out of any tournament.

Doesn't really work like that. There is no knocking out happening. Just know that if they won today they would have won the Six Nations and because they lost to Wales by more than 8 points, Wales won the Six Nations instead.

I see stupid France won. Well I guess I couldn't have both England and France lose today.

I watched parts of all three games. You see, there was no cricket on so what else could I do between watching movies with my wife and going to the inlaws house? Plus it's easy to have rugby up in one window while doing other internetting in another.

Super 15 is on every weekend :D . Hm don't know if there is any big international games on in the near future. The next big international games might be around May/ June. Think the Lions tour of Australia starts around May/ June and Lions tours are always great fun. Wish they were coming here.

I could look into Super 15, but I don't know if I care enough to watch club teams. Depending on the time the games are on for me it might work out though.

England in Australia sounds appealing though.

Lions aren't just England though. They are basically a combined England, Wales, Ireland (Northern Ireland?) and Scotland team.

Super 15 games have probably more quality than Italy vs Scotland game ;) . No offense to any Scottish or Italians here.

Nah I didn't. I don't actually catch too many six nations games to be honest. Only see the replay/ highlights sometimes. They are normally very early on a Sunday morning. I am guessing it was a pretty good game?

My point still stands. You can still get a exciting game between two evenly matched but low ranked teams. Doesn't necessarily mean that the quality of the game is as good. I do reckon a good Super 15 side can beat Italy and probably Scotland. So I am talking about sides like Bulls, Crusaders, Chiefs from last year, Sharks and so on.
