Angel Di Maria, Julian Draxler lead PSG to stunning 4-0 win vs. Barcelona

Paris Saint-Germain enjoyed a stunning 4-0 victory over Barcelona in their Champions League round of 16 first leg.
1. Blistering PSG blow Barca away
After so many false dawns in the Champions League, could this be Paris Saint-Germain’s season?
Few who witnessed this could bet against it: Unai Emery’s side blew Barcelona away with a scintillating performance that felt like a changing of the established order. Two wonderful finishes from Angel Di Maria, along with crisp drives from Julian Draxler and Edinson Cavani, sent Barcelona spiraling to a 4-0 defeat and, in truth, the damage could have been even greater. Assuming they see out the second leg, a huge psychological block might just have been removed from the French champions.
A pulsating atmosphere inside the Parc des Princes demanded a fast start from the home side, and it got one. Within four minutes, Marc-Andre ter Stegen raced well out of his goal to prevent Blaise Matuidi reaching an Di Maria pass, and moments later they carved Barcelona open again.
Cavani might have taken another Di Maria ball on his left foot but instead checked inside and allowed Sergi Roberto to block. It was relentless stuff from PSG, and in the 11th minute, Matuidi burst into the left side of the box only for Ter Stegen to save.
The question, at that early stage, was whether they could possibly keep this tempo up. It was answered six minutes later when Samuel Umtiti fouled Julian Draxler, who had turned him 2 yards outside the box. The position seemed perfect for Di Maria’s left foot and his subsequent shot, lifted over the wall past a motionless Ter Stegen, proved the impression correct.

Dortmund lose to Benfica as Aubameyang misses penalty
Kostas Mitroglou scored the only goal of the game as Benfica took advantage of Aubameyang’s off day to grab control of their Champions League last-16 tie against Borussia Dortmund in Lisbon.

Dortmund dominated the game for large periods but saw their celebrated centre-forward fluff a second-half penalty amid a series of modest finishes and an outstanding goalkeeping performance from Ederson.

Real madrid beat Napoli 3-1
Real Madrid cruise to comfortable first-leg defeat of Napoli

Two goals in five second-half minutes helped Real Madrid come from behind to beat Napoli 3-1 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 clash at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.
Brazilian Casemiro scored a stunning second-half goal to cap a thrilling comeback after Lorenzo Insigne’s audacious eighth-minute opener had threatened to pull off an upset for the visitors.
Karim Benzema equalised for the hosts within 10 minutes before Toni Kroos put Real in front and Casemiro lashed a 30-yard volley past Jose Reina to complete an impressive victory.
Keen to avoid the same kind of humiliation endured by La Liga rivals Barcelona — defeated 4-0 at Paris St Germain on Tuesday — Real started with plenty of intent, with Benzema bringing a superb save out of Reina in the first minute.
But Insigne had other ideas and he put Napoli in front when he raced onto a perfect threaded through-ball by Marek Hamsik before spotting goalkeeper Keylor Navas way off his line and stroking a low bouncing effort into the net from fully 35 yards.

Bayern beat arsenal 5-1
Thiago Alcântara and Bayern Munich leave Arsenal staring into the abyss

Arsenal will have to produce something special to reach a first Champions League quarterfinal since 2010 after suffering a 5-1 defeat to a rampant Bayern Munich side in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie at the Allianz Arena.
Despite Alexis Sanchez drawing Arsenal level on the half-hour mark following Arjen Robben’s early opener, Bayern outclassed the visitors after the break with Robert Lewandowski, Thiago Alcantara — twice — and Thomas Muller scoring to give their side a hefty advantage to take with them to the Emirates Stadium for the second leg.
It was Bayern who started on top and created the first chance of the game after eight minutes with Artutro Vidal firing a low strike at goal from the edge of the area, but David Ospina was able to get across to make the save.
The hosts did manage to break the deadlock just three minutes later as Robben cut inside from the right, after being given plenty of space by Arsenal’s defence, before curling a fine strike past Ospina into the top corner.
Bayern, dominating at this point, continued to come at the visitors with Arsenal struggling to keep hold of ball after regaining possession, while Robben again cut in from the right before seeing a strike saved.
