I'm sure there are some English folks that are excited about it as it's in England.

And of course I'll be supporting the Eagles!

The English, Irish, Welsh and South African folk in addition to the kiwis are all pretty excited.

Wish I could go to UK for this but I blew all my money this year on my trip to US! Guess I'll just have to do with waking up at ungodly hours. Can't wait.

When were you in the US!?!?! And for what reason? (If I may ask?)

Isn't it in Japan in 2019? That could be fun.

We have to play Samoa, Scotland, South Africa, and Japan. Any chance we can win one of those Synergy?

Just a holiday. Spent just over a month there mid May to June. Was awesome!

Yep Japan 2019, first time it would be going to a non-major rugby nation. Not sure how good of a crowd it is going to attract though.

I reckon you guys would easily beat Japan and probably should beat Scotland as well. Samoa are going to be tough though and that's probably going to be game that decides who qualifies through to the quarter finals with SA.

The progress that the American 7s team has made in the last couple of years is scary. Surely some of that is rubbing off on the 15s side. I reckon they'll beat Scotland. Don't think they'll beat Samoa.

I'd be content if they won just once like last time against Russia.

The match times are kind of good for me. Problem is that the online streaming package is a rip off at $199 and I don't have a cable provider that has Universal Sports (which will have the US matches and the final on TV.)

I am sure there would be plenty of dodgy free streams around. Unfortunately a lot of the games are very early in the morning for me. The All Black games are ok though.

Chiru & vijaya shanti are from my dads time. Equal to raja going gaga over dileep Kumar. Don't confuse xxxwood students.
I am giving example of what it means world view based, as per number of movies and viewers for film industry in each language.

the mighty USA will face Australia in a test match today
the USA should be favourites as we're not very good at this sport and USA generally have it over us in team sports as Australians are overawed by their overlords and puppet masters thanks to decades of TV propaganda

...

ah well this game has happened. unlike when the All Blacks attended the same venue there was no sellout crowd in attendance. The stadium was more than half empty which is understandable as Americans would never have heard of the wallabies as they didnt feature prominently in the Morgan Freeman/Matt Damon film

venue seems a little oversized for the occasion

Hah! I log into facebook and the first item on my feed is comparing the crowd at the Wallaby game to the crowd at the All Black. We do take rugby a bit too seriously sometimes.

purely because of a movie
Americans would have no idea how the All Blacks play any more than the Wallabies, but they'd heard about their legend in a movie

Possibly, I haven't seen Invictus. However, the movie was a massive flop so I am not sure how many Americans who had no knowledge of rugby would have went and saw it in the first place! Secondly the movie was more about South Africa and the campaign unifying their country.

The more likely reason is that the All Blacks brand is stronger than any other rugby nation in the world. It's pretty rare to see an All Blacks game not sold out. It doesn't matter whether they play in a traditional rugby playing country or in places like US, Japan or Hong Kong.

Not completely sure where this is leading to but no Canterbury haven't sponsored them in ages. Adidas has been the major sponsor for like a decade and a bit. After Adidas the big sponsors I think are Air New Zealand, AIG, Ford and Steinlager and then you got a whole lot of other ones.

Anyway back to the world cup warm ups, USA did pretty well for 40 mins but got destroyed by Australia in the second half!

The England, Australia, Wales group is going to be awesome.

ah, the Adidas is probably the one that is responsible for pushing their brand in the USA. makes a lot of sense.

Wallabies are sponsored by ASICs which is pretty povo branding and wont get much traction internationally

they get leftovers, they're not a high profile team

apparel sponsorships have massive influence on marketing in emerging markets as well as fixturing outside of major tournaments

Ah man, I someone missed these posts. 47-10. Hah! We are on our way to becoming a rugby powerhouse.

I believe Soldier Field is the oldest of the NFL stadiums. A while back instead of abandoning it like Western Australia, they pumped a lot of money in it to update everything.

Also, most Americans know the All Blacks, if they know them at all, from the stupid warrior dance before the matches. I think it was popular here even before Invictus was released.

Less than a week away with England - Fiji to kick things off on the 18th September.

England will win but they'll have a few bruised bodies afterwards. Pool A is going to be a slaughterhouse. Glorious!

It's inevitable that referees will have too much influence in one or two games in the world cup but the fact that they are in the spotlight after the very first game isn't a great look!

Tonga vs Georgia game should be good. Two big packs trying to smash each other to oblivion.

Have you seen any of it so far Super?

I just saw Japan shove South Africa over there own line (near enough) for a try. It was nice.

SA 7 - JPN 10 after 30mins
