Wimbledon 2015

Postby raja » Fri Jul 10, 2015 5:30 pm

Why no thread on this?
Federer beats Murray in the semis.

Am heart-broken.

Serena wins again!!!
Muguruza played quite well actually - till she choked a bit in the very last game. Otherwise, very impressive.

Congrats to Serena. She was already a legend, now reaching new heights.
With this win, she completes her second "in a 12-month period" Grand Slam (as opposed to the original Grand Slam which was based on one calendar year).
They now call this version the Serena Slam. :-)

She will complete Grand Slam at New York, in couple of months

Now Playing:
If I hold a gun to your head for Tests next year ...
If I hold a gun to your head for entire next year

Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza win the women's doubles title.
Fantastic last set - they came back from 2-5 down to win it 7-5.

I think Sania Mirza is the first Indian woman to win a Wimbledon title (not counting juniors).

Well, she wasn't all that convincing this Wimbledon, though she is so far ahead of the rest that she still managed to win. :-)

I guess, on home soil, with the crowd strongly behind her, she will raise her game. Yes, a calendar Grand Slam looks very likely.

Serena is a beast. Even if she has a shitty day she is still much better then the rest.

The Don Bradman of women tennis.

India won three doubles titles in this Wimbledon- women's doubles, mixed doubles and junior men's doubles. Martina Hingis was the partner of Indians in the first two titles. So Sania Mirza (women's double with Hingis) and Leander Paes (mixed doubles with Hingis) owe a lot to Martina Hingis for making it a memorable Wimbledon for India.
